SOUTHERN ORPHAN ASSOCIATION !
(Incorporated by th? legislature of Vir?

TO BE GIVEN AT THE
Maryland Institute, Baltimore,
APRIL 30, 1867.
THE profita of this Concert will be given
to tho Southern Orphan's Association,
to tho subjoined address from tho officers
of which wo call the attention of tho public:
Wo. tho officers of tho Southern Or?
phan s Association, for tho mai .tcnanco
and education of tho destitute orphans of
deceased Southern soldiers and sailors,
earnestly solicit thc sympathy and co-opo
ration in our Grand Presentation Concert,
of all who desire to see tho

needy ones who seek its shelter and pro?
tection.
Thanking our friends for their past con?
tributions and assistanoo, wo again appoal
to them to help us in a moro.ostensivo en?
terprise. It is tho design of this Associa?
tion to erect a ?'HOME AND SCHOOL" for
tho orphans of tho South, both.male and
female, on an extensive scale, in the city of
Richmond, Virginia. As an inducement to
have tho building located there, tho Com?
mon Council of that city have guaranteed
a sufficient lot of land, in an elevated and
healthful location, and will increase the
quantity of land if needed. ?
It is with a contident hopo in a favorable
response to this appeal to a publio which
has novcr yet failed to sustain a charitable
institution, that wo have entered into an
arrangement with Messrs. L. T. PALMER
& CO., No. 13 Hollidav street, Baltimore,
to organizo a GRAND MUSICAL PRE?
SENTATION CONCERT for it? benefit,
and earnest i y solicit tbe kindly aid and pa?

It may Boora unnecessary to add a single
word to the above address, but calls upon
tho institution have been so numerous and
prcstting, and the struggle through which
it is now passing to widen thc circle of its
charities, is of such an arduous nature,
that the management cannot too strongly
urge upon tho humane and pathetic every?
where an active participation iu this addi?
tional attempt to allcviato tho sad condi?
tion of great numbers of helpless children,
rendered thus hy tho terrible war through
which wo have passed. And, assuredly,
I whatever may have been the relativo po?
litical views of'ladics and gentlemen here?
tofore, all must agree that tito children
referred to eonld.net, by any possibility,
have had any agency in bringing about
their present deplorable and destitute con?
dition, and arc snitablo objects for the
charity of all persons, of whatever shade
of political opinion. Tho "Homo ' and
School" which they now more particularly
seek to establish and endow, will bo of in?
calculable benefit, by providing not only
food and raiment for these helpless ones,
hut likewise solid and tho rough education;
thus qualifying them for future usefulness
to society at large.
In order that this appeal may bc effect?
ual in enlisting tho active interest and co?
operation of all classes of persons every?
where, we have concluded to ?KSUO for tho
