Tho Richmond correspondent of the New York Herald says that thc general tone of thc two houses of the Virginia Legislature indicate thc acceptance of the new Act of recon? struction. Ho adds: "Everycircum? stance shows a far hotter feeling herc | chan has existed for many a day, and ;ii the people's minds the military bill lias been as good as accepted. .Such a slate of affairs is not only plea? sant, but cheering. Virginia will now ! iead the way, and her action will de- ! termine that of all the other South-j ern states. GRAND CHARITABLE PRESEM1T10X CONCERT ! j IN AID OF THE SOUTHERN ORPHAN ASSOCIATION : f Incorporate by ike Legislature of Vir- j ginia, January 30, 1SG7. TO BE GIVEN AT THE Maryland Institute. Baltimore, AP J: IL 30, 1SG7. nnHE profits of this Concert will bc given ? 1 to the Southi m Orphan's Association, ' to thc subjoined address from the officers : ol'which wc call tho attention of thc public: j Wc, thc officers of the Southern Or? phan's Association, for thc maintenance and education of thc destitute orphans of I deceased Southern soldiers and Bailors, I earnestly solicit the sympathy und co-ope- ! ration in our Grand Presentation Concert, of ?iii who desire to see the " HO ME A XD S C II 0 0 L " Enabled to receive, and care for all thc needy ones who seek its shelter and pro? tection. Thanking our fri? nds for th< ir past con? tributions and assistance, we again appeal to them to help us in a more extensivo en? terprise, lt is the design of this Associa? tion to erect a "HOME AND SCHOOL"for the orphans of the South, both male and female, on an extensive scale, in tho cityof Richmond, Virginia. As an inducement to have thc building located there, tho Com? mon Council of that city have guaranteed a sufficient hu < i' land, in an elevated and healthful location, and will increase the quantity ot' land ii needed. 1; is with a confident hone in a "favorable response to this appeal to' a public which ha? never yet failed to sustain a charitable institution, that we have entered into an arrange mont with Messrs. L. T. PALMER .V CO., No. 13 Hollidav street. G. KIMBERLY. " " Mrs. CHAS. MCCCBBIX, Mrs. Dr. J. B. BEAN, lt may seem unnecessary to add a single word to the above address, but calls upon the institution have been so numerous ami pressing, and the struggle through which it is now passing to widen thc circle of its charities, is of such an arduous nature, that thc management cannot too strongly urge upon the humane and pathetic every? where ar. active participation in this addi? tional attempt to alleviate the sad condi? tion of great numbers of helpless children, rendered thus by the terrible war through which we have passed. And, assuredly, whatever may have bei n the relative po? litical views of huhes and gentlemen here? tofore, all must agree that the children referred to could not, by any possibility, have had any agency in bringing about their present deplorable and destitute con? dition, and arc suitable objects for thc charity of all persons, of whatever shade of political opinion. The "Homo and School" which they now more particularly seek to establish and endow, will bc Of in? calculable benefit, by providing not only food and raiment for these helpless ones, but likewise solid and thorough education: thus qualifying them for future usefulness to society at large. In order that this appeal may bc off? ct nal in enlisting the active interest and co? operation of all classes of persons every? where, we have concluded to issue for the Grand Presentation Musical (.'oncer: 500, 000 tickets, at the nominal price of il each-a single ticket entitling tho pur? chaser to a gift-there being one gift to every ticket.
