WASHINGTON, March 0.-In the
Senate, a joint resolution, appro- i
priating 81,500,000 to the destitute ':
Southerners, regardless of politics,
was introduced by Trumbull. He |
stated that Gen. Howard had ap-1
peared before the committee, stating
that, unless this appropriation was
made, great suffering would ensue.
The present appropriations were for |
freedmen and loyal refugees. The j
resolution was voted down.
Indian affairs were then discussed. !
After executive session, the Senate j
adjourned.
The House was not in session.
The Senate Judiciary Committee |
has agreed to report the supplemental
reconstruction bill of the House Ju?
diciary Committee, and accepts it
with some amendments, which have
not transpired. It directs that the
general in each district shall cause a
registration to be made before Sep?
tember, 1867, and then cause an elec?
tion of delegates to a convention ap?
pointing the election of officers, ?fcc.
Section 0 provides that the command?
ing general may delegate these pow?
ers to the acting governor on his
taking the oath faithfully to perform
these duties.
Thc Fenians in Irrlnml.
DUBLIN, March 8.-The Fenians
ave in force in Devil Bit Mountain, and
troops with artillery have gone to
dislodge them. Up to this time,
twelve Fenian leaders have been cap?
tured. The Fenians hold the police
barricades at Killaten, in Kildare
County.
Small bands of Feniaus are patroll?
ing the counties of Waterford, Cork,
Tipperary and Limerick. They are
pressing the people into their ranks
and committing robberies everywhere.
A despatch from Waterford says
the G ul ty Mountains arc swarming
with Fenians. An attack on Tippe-1
rary is apprehended.
