WASHINGTON SENSATION.-The fol
lowing occurs among the latest.
It is said that the Postinaster-Gcn
eral, Mr. Randall, wishes to retire
from his oflice, and that the Presi?
dent has offered tho place to Horace
Greeley. For some reiuson the Pre?
sident has, it seems, become more
radical of late in his appointments.
Ho found no political strength in
any distribution of patronage.
It is said that General Grant aud
General Sherman and Secretary
Stanton will so manage the Military
Government that it shall bc as mild
as possible.
HOG PACKING.-The packing sea?
son at the West is about over. Most
packers aver that hogs have ruled
five to seven per cent, heavier than
last season, and this observation has
been made with regard lo the crop
throughout the West.
Diplomacy will not be able to keep
the Turkish empire ?ibove ground
