THAD. STEVENS IN OHIO.--Thad.
Stevens is passing away. Last winter
ho. hail many admirers and a host of
followers, aud was really a lender it!
the national House of Representatives.
This winter, wliich ho commenced in
"Washington with a declaration that
he liad waste1 much time in being it
conservative, and proposed lo be a
radical, he has bi n kicked and cuff?
ed almost without ceremony. His
greatness, and that of Forney, faded
at Harrisburg, and now his pct
scheme of an enabling Act for tho
Southern States has been committed
to the Committee on Reconstruction,
and that's an end of it. * * *
The extremists are defeated, and the
thanks of the people of good sense
everywhere are due Mr. Bingham, of
Ohio, for Iiis influential part in nc-j

The Nashville Dispatch, of January
29, says: "A party of twenty Indians
from the Choctaw Nation are in the
city, consisting of young squaws aud
braves. They are well dressed and
seem eutirely divested of the wild
ferocity of their tribe when they
roamed the untamed forests of North
America. These Indians, we are in?
formed, are here for the purpose of
going to school. They visited both
Houses of the Legislature yesterday,
and attracted considerable attention."
