We noticed, the other day, a nefa?
rious business was being carried on
in the older (Southern States, viz:

brokefige, by which thousands of
thc freedmen have boca seduced
from their old homes. Wc observe,
by our Wilmington exchanges, that
parties from Texas wer," in that city,
endeavoring to make contra?is with
the freedmen, but with indifferent
success. Tlu r<' is a legal remedy, if
we mistake not, in the Act concern?
ing colored persons in this State, a
provision of which imposes a consi?
derable fine on those enticing such
oorsons from their employers. Per?
haps an application of this remedy
would curtail the operations of the
"brokers" in this State, at least. It
ought to be applied whenever an op?
portunity offered.

when Mr. I. entered the room, he
found thc unfortunate man lying on
his face, on thc floor, with his throat
cut from ear io car. An inquest waa
held on the body at Belton.
