Because we can't; because we are slaves to our creditors, and must make money to satisfy their claims; and the only way we can make money is by plauting cotton, and we must raise more means, and goon plauting cotton, though it plunges us tenfold moro into debt, and we lose all bv it atlast." There is one plantation, not fif? teen miles from Natchez, which is one of the finest in Adams County, which has never failed to full into the overseer's hands out of those of the minor children of the last overseer.
