AMERICAN* STEAMSHIP LINES TO EU?
ROPE.-Between New York and Eu?
rope but one American line of steam?
ships now plies, that betweeen New
York and Havre, upon which the
steamships Arago and Fulton are
running. But this line does not pay,
and the owners of these steamers are
seriously considering tho policy of |
abandoning the business and selling
them. When these vessels first sail?
ed to Europe in 1856, they made thc
trip generally in twelvo d-.ys and
were quito popular, but the rival
English lines have since built faster
vessels, and these have been almost
deserted. It really seems that the last
American line between New York,
and Europe is to be abandoned, and
the fact is traceable to the reason
mentioned above.
