honse visited the room, and found
the girl with her head nearly severed ;
from her body, with a sheet tightly 1
tied round her. Subsequently,
through a picture found in the girl's ;
trunk, the murderer was ascertained
to be Newton Champion, ex-Assistaut
Engineer in the navy. He was ar- ?
rafted.

grand jury made a report of the tes?
timony on the late riots. It says,
speaking of the Convention, "this
assumption of power by these men
was a flagrant, open and defiant vio?
lation of the laws. It was an insolent
and lawless attempt to subvert the
Government and destroy the Consti?
tution, and under the laws of most
countries would have amounted to
high treason, and would be made
punishable with death.
