The Indianapolis Herald, of Satur? day, says: "A young girl belonging to one of our best families, fancying that she had been badly treated by an elder sister, took a terrible revenge. Pro? curing a stick of nitrate of silver at a drug store, she dissolved it iu her sister's wash pitcher. Tho young lady performed her morning ablu? tions, and was horrified in the course of the morning to find that her hands had turned as brown as those of a mulatto. A look at the glass reveal? ed the alarming fact that her face was the same color. Tho young sister now heartily repents uer criminal folly, and would do anything in the world to remedy the evil she has caused. Time only can efface the marks of the terrible bath, and in the meantime the affair is being kept quiet. Callers are told that the young lady is ill of a contagions disease, and she keeps her room, impatiently awaiting the tedious process of grow? ing white again." - Pennsylvania has a rival in the manufacture of paper from wood substances, in Maryland. The Messrs. Marx Brothers, of Baltimore, have erected a factory, and by a new pro? cess are making paper pulp out of wood.
