Harry bad despatched his father to
apprise him of their coming, anti the
delighted old gentleman had made
every preparation to receive bis
wounded son and his charming Yir

and pride could suggest. George
and William Gillespie, Harry's

the coast of this State, but they had
obtained leave to visit home to meet
their elder brother from Virginia;

at long intervals. He remained con?

the war, and though lie participated
in many a hard brush aud battle with
the foe, he was SO fortunate us to es?
cape without any serious injury from
them all, and witnessed the vlosiug
scenes of the momentous contest.
When thu sun of the South went
down, and her battered and battle
worn banner could live no longer,
oxcept like the names of the heroic
men that had fallen in its defence
in. the sweet songs of Southern barils
and in the green isles of memory- -
he returned to the embrace of his
beloved Ellen and sought, in the do?
mestic felicity that awaited him there,
some solace aud alleviation for his
public griefs and the woos that had
befall rn bia once happy country.
And he found it.
Ere we bid you adieu, friendly
reader, go with us ouce more, for a
moment, to the valley of the Massa
ponix, and we will show yon a scene
that will ravish yqar heart. Though
tho bloody tide of war surged near
and around the tdd mansion, it wa i
wonderfully and fortunately spared,
having been occupied respectively as
headquarters by the contending
hosts; and ns soon as that section of
the country ceased to be the theatre
of active hostilities, Mr. Early re?
turned, collected some of his scat?
tered servants, replaced some of his
stock, and endeavored to repair his
losses as well as he could. Much ol
the beauty of the place has been re?
stored, for the recuperating energio
of the lion-hearted Old Dominion aie

land yet. It is now.the delightful
home of Mr. Early, Ellen and Harry.
