WASHINGTON, June 21.-The Senate waa
engaged on the consolidation tax bill, and
made vory good progress on the measure.
The House concluded the consideration
of the new army bill, which waa then
passed- yeas 72, nays 41. It provides for
a maximum of .ri0,000 men.
The Navy Department has received a
despatch from the United States steamer
Vanderbilt, dated Acapulco, Mexico, Mav
30, stating their arrival there ou the 29th
inst., after a passago of eight and-a-half
days from Panama. The town is occupied
by the French, with a single vessel -tho
Lucifer, earrvfng eijht guns . lying at an?
chor l>cfore it. The shores of the hay
are beleaguered by thc Liberals, so that
cocoanut groves wit hin cannon shot of thc
town cannot safely bo approachod. Thc
coal agent desires the protection of thc
American flag, in giving coal to the Monad
nock. The Commodore states that after
coaling, ho will probably proceed to Han
Francisco, touching at Magdalene, hy a
