is a homely and shabby specimen of
humanity; had on a pair of worn-out
slippers, a dirty shirt, seedy coat, and
evidently had not washed his face for
several weeks. But such is, not un
frequently, the garb of genius- -an
eccentric way that great men often
adopt for being distinguished from
the masses. I regret that my curiosity
ever sought an introduction to George
D. Prentice, for, while I cannot but
admire him as a journalist, scholar,
poet aud wit, tb o remembrance of his
personal appearance must ever de?
tract from the sublimitv of his effu

as 'twas told to me:
An old fellow in the neighboring j
town who is original iu all things,
especially in excessive egotism and j
?rofanity, and who took part in the j
