ALABAMA COTTON CROP.-A Mobfle
I factor, resident of that city for twen
j ty-fivu years, writes that all estimates
I of the cotton crop for tho current
vcar must pr< ive fallacious. The very
heavy and excessive rains have
washed and destroyed the upland
plantations, and those on the river
are inundated. Monroe Comity, in
that State, is the only one from which
the accounts are at all flattering.
The House Committee on Territo?
ries have decided to report adversely
on a bill to make Utah a State. The
Committee have secured a vast
amount of evidence, which reflects
severely on the Mormon officials. The
present territorial government is so
insufficient that some of the Commit
tee are disposed to favor a military
government for Utah.
A gigantic cotton factory, called
the Mauassas Manufactory, has been
built at Carroll ton, Mississippi. It
contains 180,1)00 spindles, 1,300
looms, and goes into operation July
the 1st. Tile stock now stands fifteen
per cent, above par. The company
owns 1,800 acres of land contiguous j
to the factory, all well wooded.
