The committee who Lava charge of
the completion of Cologne cathedral,
have applied to the King of Prussia
for permission to establish a lottery
to secure frinds for the purpose. A
lottery for nine years, it is computed,
will furnish sufficient sums to complete
the great work, which has been un?
finished for centuries. During the
past year the receipts have amounted
io ?284,000, of which $175,000 were
thc result of the lottery, and 350,000
were the gift of the Government. The
lottery, if continued, is expected to
yield $250,000 a year.
Leading cotton manufacturers rep?
resent to the Committee on Ways
and Means that the supply of cotton
suitable for American consumption is
so small that it is probable we shall
be obliged to resort to importation of
the article before September next.

Keyport Weekly Steer states that a
great addition to the mineral resources
of New Jersey has been made by the
discovery of extensive beds of brown
coal in tue Counties of Middlesex and
Monmouth.
The Memphis Post says that at a
recent meeting in Helena, Ark.,
Judge T. B. Han ly declared himself
in favor of negro suffrage. Judge
Hanly was a member of the Confede?
rate Congress.
