temperance, hygienic, etc. Papers
or magazines, written exclusively for
ladies, lack that vigor and power
which all true women admire. The
best paper, therefore, combines the
two elements, male and female, so
blended as to represent the two na?
tures, and to feed both tho intellect
and the sentiment; but from feeding
on the wishy-washy twaddle of sick,
simpering, literary 'hacks' of cither
sex, we beg to bc delivered. Sensible
mon and women want vigorous, sen?
sible thoughts, expressed by healthy

An Ordinance concerning the city police:
That it shall be the duty of the city police
to arrest all persons who shall behave in a
riotous or disorderly manner, or who shall
be found drunk in tito streets of Columbia,
and carry such persons to the guard-house.
An Ordinance to close barber-shops on
the Sabbath-day.
An Ordinance for tia' better observance
of thc Sabbath lay.
An Ordinale relative to the deposit of
tilth and trash in the streets.
An Ordinance to regulate blacksmiths'
shops.
I An Ordinance concerning dogs.
An Ordinance concerning fire-arms.
An Ordinance concerning goats and
I swine running at large.
An Ordinance concerning horses and fast
driving in the streets.
An Ordinance regulating the granting ol
licenses to retail spirituous liquors in the
city of Columbia.
