and stoves then in use were not con?
structed to facilitate the combustion
of anthracite, and burn it would not.
After 'many ineffectual efforts to
ignite the product, it was thrown
aside as worthless, and our discomfit?
ed German, who had beguiled his
toilsome way to the metropolis with
dreams of ingots, returned to digest
bis disappointment in his mountain
solitude.
