cede the County of Alexandria, in

and personal property shall not Ije
affected by this act, but that public
property of tho United States shall
again vest in the United States; and
the Government, through its proper
officers, is hereby authorized to ac?
quire, by purchase or otherwise, any
and all further property, real or per?
sonal, in said ^portion of the District
that may be deemed necessary for
public use. It provides that all ac?
tions at law shall be conducted and
determined according to the enact?
ments of Congress for the govern?
ment of the District of Columbia,
except causes wherein final judg?
ment or sentence shall have been
pronounced, in which case the final
satisfaction shall be in accordance
with the laws of the State of Virgi?
nia. It also provides that all taxes
and revenues assessable and collecta?
ble on property, real or personal, in
that portion of the District of Colum?
bia South of the Potomac, shall be
rated, collected aud applied, accord?
ing to the existing and future laws of
Congress governing Hie District ol
Columbia. All civil offices of Alex?
andria, nuder this bill, are made va?
cant, and shall again be filled by new
appointments, or by elections, in ac?
cordance with the laws of the District.

enforced for the better government and
well-being of the city:
An Ordinance concerning the city police:
That it shall lie the duty of the city police
to arrest all persons who shall behave in a
riotous or disorderly manner, or who shall
be found drunk in the streets of Colnsibia,
and carry such persons t.. Hie guard-house.
An Ordinance to close barber-shops on
t he Sabbath-day.
An Ordinance for the better observance
nf the Sabbath-day.
An Ordinance relative to the deposit of
filth and trash in the streets.
An Ordinance to regulate blacksmiths'
Shops.
\n Ordinance concerning dogs.
An Ordinanco concerning tire-arui?.
An Ordinance concerning K >.HI> and

An Ordinance concerning hon es and fast

licenses to retail spirituous liquors in the

to work on the streeis of the city; said
