A recent instance of the ingenuity
and boldness of thieves has come to
our notice. A rogue in Paris had
looked with longing eyes at the great
diamonds exposed for sale in the win?
dows and show-cases of the jeweler's
shop, and he determined to have
them. He employed a skillful
draughtsman to make drawings of
these precious ornaments, from which
he had imitations made of base metal
and material so good that detection
was difficult. Then pretending that
he wjfhed to purohase the jewels, he
