THE COOLIE TRADE.-The London
and China Telegraph, of the 4th ult.,
says:
Of the tl:?rty shills now lying nt
anchor in the harbor of Macao, six?
teen are cha tered tor Havana with
slaves. All .hese vessels will, as is
the custom, i 'lip a certain number of
coolies in ex ess of their contract, in
order to hnvt the means of supplying
the places ot those who may die on
the voyage. Vt is curious that no one
has, as yet. f> > ind out "why so many
of the coolies tose their sight on the
voyage. Out i f a cargo of 500, forty
will be completely blind before they
arrive at their destination; and as,
according to the terms of the charter
party, the barracoon owner will only
pay for and receive those that arrive
in possession of their eye-sight.fthe
unfortunate blind are probably cast
into the sea or landed upon some
desert island, for the Government will
not permit any Chinaman to live in
Havana unless he belongs to a master.
A railroad track has been laid across
the Mississippi River, on the ice, at
Atchison, and trains cross regularly.

charter of the Company, viz: "That said
President and Directors shall have power
and authority, from timo to time, to call
for the payment of the unpaid stock, in
such sums as they may deem proper; and

refusal or any stockholder to pay tho
