knowledge, undertaken the defense
of nu unjust cause.
The Darlington New Era, of thc
23d instant, states that, since New
Year's day, the freedmen have shown,
as a general thing, great anxiety to
get employment; and, in mosteases,
are perfectly willing to sign contracts.
The number of idle negroes about
our streets is very perceptibly di?
minishing. Much of this is due to
