HOTEL LIVING IN NEW YORK.-The
proprietors of the Broadway hotels
are talking seriously of raising their
prices of board from ?$4.50 to $6 per
iay, not because they have grown
immensely wealthy at the former
figure, but because they believe they
oan obtain the latter rates as easily;
and I believe they can. As it is, the
landlords are unable to accommodate
the crowds of applicants for board,
and they are inclined to establish a
tariff, out of pure benevolence to their
guests, of course, that will give their
customers more room. The prices
which some persons pay at the fash?
ionable hotels are remarkable. There
are families *t the Fifth Avenue who
give $500 to $600 a week for their
mere lodging and boarding privileges,
while their ' 'extras" will reach $300
to $400 more.-New York Letter.

ago was in tho office of the Museum, on
