following account is now going ~the_
round of the German papers:
"The municipal wine vault of Bre?
men is the most celebrated in all Ger?
many. Ono section called the Bose,
from the bronze bas-relief of -rosea
over it, contains tho famous Kosen
wein, which is now two contnries and
a half old. There, six largo casks of
Khine wine, Johannisberg, and'' as
many bf Hocheimer, were placed in
1621. In tho adjacent parts, the same
division of tlie cellar, are twelve large
casks, bearing the name of thc Apos?
tles, and containing wines not less
precious, but which are not so aged
by a few years* The other parts of
the cellar are occupied with wines of
a subsequent growth.- By degrees, as
a few bottles of Bosenwein are drawn
off, the casks are-filled up with Apos?
tle wino, and that wifh some sort still
?rouo?je?^ and .so os^ ip such a manner
hat* the^din^refcr-'feak s are always
very nearly full'.. A single bottle of
Rosen wein now represents an immense
?value. A cask of wine,, containing
1,000 bottles, oewv in- 1624, l,250f.
Calculating that sum at compound in?
terest, with the expense of cellarage,
a bottle would positively cost 10,835,
232f. ; a glass, or eighth part of a
bottl?, about 1,361,9041 The Rosen
wein and Apostle wine are never sold
but to citizens of Bremen. The bur?
gomasters alone have permission to
draw a few bottles, and to send them '
as presents to sovereigns. A citizen
of Bremen may, in case pf serious ill?
ness, procure a bottle af 20f., on his
obtaining the certificate of his doctor,
and the consent of the municipal
council. A poor inhabitant of Bremen
may also obtain a bottle gratis, after
having fulfilled certain formalities.
A citiaen has also the right of de?
manding a bottjo when he receives
any celebrated personage at his house
as a guest. "
A humorous professor in St,
Andrew's used to relate the following
anecdote at his own expenso : When
minister of a country parish, he had
the misfortune to lose a number of his
teeth, and he had become apprehensive
lest he "should be deprived of the
others. While he was preaching one
Sabbath, he observed the precentor
scratch "his head, a circumstance whi h
led him to fear that another emanci?
pated tooth had fallen upon the pate
of that functionary. His dinner in
the afternoon consisted * of sheep's
head and trotters^ boiled in broth. Of
the broth he had tasted dhly
a few spoonfuls, when he? dis
.. covered two teeth in his ' plate.
"Fully ^satisfied now," said the pro
, f essor, * 'that I had been spitting teeth,
I despatched John for the fl medical
man. He lived four miles oft"; but
John representing the case as urgent,
the doctor was at the Manse in a few
hours. ' "Can you fasten teeth, doc?
tor?" I said to the physician, "for
mine are falling our in pairs." "Show
me any. you have lost," said thc

which I had found, in my plate, and

Provisional Governor in and for the State of
South Carolina, with power to prescribe
such rules and regulations as may he neces?
sary and proper for convening a Convention
of the State, composed of delegates to he
chosen by that portion of the people of said
State who aro loyal to the United States,
for the purpose of altering or amending the
Constitution thereof; and with authority to
exercise within the hunts of tlue State all
the powers necessary and proper to enable
such loyal people to restore said State to ita
constitutional relations to the Federal Gov?
ernment, and to present such a-Republican
form ot State Government as will entitle the
State to the guarantee of the United States
therefor, and its people to protection by the
United States against invasion, insurrection
and domestic violence. .
Now, therefore, in obedience to the pro?

elected on the first Monday in September
next, are hereby rctpiiivd to convene in the
city bf Columbia, on WEDNESDAY, the 13th
day of September, lfi(>5, ior the purpose of

good and lawful citizens of the State to
unite in enforcing the laws and bringing to

ers, robbers and marauders, all vagrants
and vile persons who are wandering about
without employment or any visiblo means
of supporting themselves.
' Iiis also expecteR that all former owners
of freed persons will be kind to them, and
not turn off the children or aged to perish;
and th^freed men and women are earnestly
enjoined to make contracts, just and fair,
for remaining with their former owner.
In order to facilitate as much ss possible
thc application for pardons under the ex?
cepted sections of the President's Amnesty
Proclamation, it is stated for information
that all applications must be by petition,
stating tho exception, and accompanied
with the oath prescribed. This petition
inuat be first approved by the Provisional
Governor, and then forwarded to the Preai
