A Fight britta Guerilla*.
MEMPHIS, Aug. 20.-Some soldiers
left Jackson, Tenn., a few days ago*,
to hunt up horses that had been
stolon, but they wen; attacked by a
largo number oi guerillas, and being
driven back, they. were obliged to
abandon their horses. They reported
that three soldiers wore killed after
being captured by the guerilla's. Two
guerillas have beeu captured.

NEW YORK, August 22.-A special
despatch to tho. World, dated Nashville.
August 22, says the rebel (ron. Wheeler
was badly beaten to-day by Col. Black
born and Capt. Quinn, in consequence
of a threat made during the war by
Wheeler that ho would kill Blackburn
if he ever took him prisoner, as he
was a "d-d home-made Yankee."
Wheeler was in bod when attacked,
.and was severely beaten.

argued principally by Judge Hughes,
who contended that they were ton
general and uncertain, and that the
offences eiiargod were cognizable by
the civil and military courts. The
Commission overruled the motion.
The prisoner then plead not guilty to
rho charges against, him.
Col. Chipuis.il, the Judge Advocate,
to-day suggested that the prisoner be
remanded to the Old Capitol and that
the Court adjourn. In this tho Court
without- a formal vote acquiesced.

Col. Chipman replied that ho would I
notify the counsel of the re-assem?

Col. Chipman replied that under j

can be no argument.
Judge Hughes-The prisoner having
beim arrraigned, we enter our protest
against breaking np tho court or an
indefinite adjouiiiir.o it. We ask either
for the discharge of the prisoner or to
proceed with the trial.
Maj. Gen. Wallace repeated that the
court had adjourned.
During this colloquy the prisoner
was removed from the court room by
the military guard.
The adjournment, without a day
having been named for the re-assem?
bling of thc court, took the counsel
and spectators by surprise. No reason
is as yet known for this course, though
there is a suspicion merely that the
charge ol' conspiracy may be with?
drawn.

our citizen asked the President what
