The Port Boyal Railroad Company are push?
ing the construction of this road vigorously to
completion. On the eastern end of the Une,
the road has been completed, and the cars are
running for sixty-eight miles. The local
traffic far exceeds the expectations of the
company, and the opening up of the road has
developed, -especially, a Targe lumber trade.
Ships now Ile In thirty feet of water at the
wharf, and are loaded with lumber from the j
cars direct, without-the intervention of inter?
mediate handling. On the Georgia end ot i fte
road, the track has been laid to Sand Bar
Ferry, two thousand and Atty feet ol trestle

menoed. The bridge has been framed, (Howe
Trues,) and all the Iron thereior provided
(manufactured at the Borne, Georgia; Iron
Works.) The bridge wlU be eight hundred
and twenty-elx feet long, divided into seven
spans, to wi! : One of two hundred feet, con?
taining a draw for the passage ot steamers;
the others of one hundred and filly feet eaob,
with abutments of twenty-six feet each of
solid masonry. The construction of the piers
and abutments have been'delayed by the re?
peated and unusual freshets In the Savannah
River; but the work has now progressed so
far as to leave but little doubt but that the
work can be vigorously and nnlnterrupedly
pushed to completion, and the contractors feel
confident that their work will be accomplish?
