THK BORAL CAROLINIAN, the best agricultu?
ral magazine ia the South, holds its own with?
out any diminution In the variety or interest
of Its contents. The September number was
published yesterday by the proprietors, Messrs.
Walker, Ev.- ns A Cogswell and D. Wyatt Aiken.
Tan Boer AND CATRRPILLAR.-A trust?
worthy gentleman who arrived In this elly
from Barnwell Village, on Wednesday after?
noon, reported the cotton crops In that vicini?
ty aa seriously Injured by rust. Almost every
field had been attacked, and the plants were
casting fruits and flowers at an alarming rate
The caterpillar had also appeared on several
plantations. It was Impossible at that time to
estimate the damage done by the rust.
PROLIFIC COTTON.-There was on exhibition
yesterday, at the office or Messrs. E. H. Frost
A Co., factors, Ad ger's wharves, a cotton
stalk about four feet lu length, having on it
.boat one hundred nearly-matured bolls.
This fruitful growth was from the farm of Mr.
B 0'Neale, Jr., near Colombia, S. C., and la a
striking evidence of the developing power ot
the cotton plant under practical and Intelli?
gent cultivation. It is certainly a curiosity In
the way of rich vegetation.
BONA WA Y ACCIDENT.-A horse attached to
an e jp:y dray took fright on Meeting street
near ??w Pavilion Hotel, yesterday afternoon,
and ran ap the street. At the corner of Hasel
street he took to the sidewalk, and scattered
the pedestrians in all directions. A little white
giri stood close to the wall of the Pavilion
Hotel paralyzed with fear, and narrowly
escaped being crushed by the inside wheel,
which paned not more than an Inch from her
body. A short distance above the outside
wheel struck the box of a tree, oo tbe edge of
the pavement, and partially demolished it.
The horse was finally brought to a halt by run?
ning the dray against a lamp-post, overturning
and smashing the lantern and putting the post
on a deplorable bender. The dray and horse
were noe materially Injured. They belonged
to a white drayman named Callahan.

THE SOLICITOR8HZP OE THE FIRST
JUDICIAL CIRCUIT.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEWS.
In order to correct the statements made In
your paper some days ago, 1 desire to say that
there ls no regular candidate for the solicitor
ship ot the First Circuit. The Courthouse
clique alone are responsible for the nomina?
tion of Mr. C. W. Buttz. They bad no author?
ity to nominate any one for the position of
solicitor. I am as much a regular nominee as
C. W. Bullz, notwithstanding the action and
influences brought to bear against me by the
aforesaid clique, as I believe, because I olalm
to be a respectable Republican. With the assis?
tance of the majority of Republicans I pro?
pose to avert so great a calamity as would be
entailed upon the county and State by tbe
election of an objectionable person to tbe
office of solicitor of the First Circuit

f GUYOTS TAR I ?
CONCENTRATED PROOF LIQUEUR
KI' Guyot has succeeded in depriving tar
of its insupportable sourness and bitterness,
and in rendering it very solt?le. Profiting
by this happy discovery, he prepares a con?
centrated liqueur of tar, which in a small
volume contains a large proportion of the
active principle.
Guyot'a Ur possesses all the advantages of
ordinary tar-water without any of its draw?
backs A glass of excellent tar-water without
any disagreeable Liste may be instantaneously,
obtained by pouring a teaspoonful into aj
glass of water.
Any one can thus prepare his glass of tar
water at thc moment he requires it, thus
economizing time, facilitating carriage and
obviating the disagreeable necessity of hand?
ling tai*.
Guyots tar replaces advantageously se?
veral more or less inactive ptisans in the
treatment of colds, bronchitis, coughs, and
catarrhs.
Guyot ? tar is employed with the greatest
success in the following diseases :
AS A DRAUGHT. - A leusponfal in a glass
of waler, or two tablespoonfuls in a bottle.
BRONCHITIS
CATARRH OF THE BLADDER
COLDS
OBSTINATE COUGHS
IRRITATION OF THE CHEST
PUIMONARY CONSUMPTION
WHOOPING COUGH
OISEASES OF THE THROAT
AS A LOTION. - Pure or diluted with a
little waler.
AFFECTIONS OF THE SKIN
ITCH I NOS
DISEASES OF THE SCALP
Guyot s tar has been tried with the
greatest success in the principal hospitals of
Prance, Belgium, and Spain. Experience has
proved it U> be the most liygienie drink in
time of epidemics.
