THE CAMPAIGN NEWS.
Greeley Against Grant-A Paper for
the People.
The Presidential Campaign for 1872 has
opened. It will be the most exciting that
the country has ever known. The issues in?
volved are extraordinary in character, and
come directly home to every citizen. The
overthrow of Grant and the election of
Greeley mean Honesty and Beform in the
National Administration, the triumph of Law
and tbe restoration of Peace and Harmony J.
throughout our land, and a return to the I i
fundamental principies of government which I (
prevailed in the better days of the Be-11
public. I j
The most intense interest will naturally
be felt in the progress and result of the 1e
struggle, especially in tbe South, where the I <
material prosperity of the people and their t
relief from organized persecution and rob- j
bery are involved. We mean that THE I <

in no respect fall to deserve the favor \

[FROM OUR OWN CORKBSHON DENT. ? j
BARNWELL, July 15. 11
A difficulty arose between two of our white s
citizens, the particu .ara ol which I do not under- I jj
stand. One of the parties, however, burled a j s
brick at the head of the other, which took 11
effect, and laid bis opponent senseless. Gene-1 g
rally, we are very quiet i?ere, and live on J jj
peaceable terms with the colored population, I s
perhaps more so than in any other district in I s
the State. !
The weather here ls intensely warm. The 3
. other day everything of animal Hie seemed I s
panting lor breath. Tbe crops seem to wilt at I S
midday-, in the afternoon tbey rejoice In |
showers, and in the morning, from the dew I j?
ot the night, are luxuriantly fresh. With most 11
of our farmers the corn crops may be Bald to I ?
be laid aside, and very nearly the cotton crop, I ?j
which in its present state ls rather more flat-1 s
terina than last year. I took occasion the f T
otherday to rid? in the dlrecton of Williston. T
I saw several farms In good cultivation and ?
promising. On my way,'I stopped at the reel- ^
dence of Mr. Hair. His farm ls admirably con- _
ducted. I rode all over it, examineewevery-1 ?
thing growing, and found it a model farm, T
The secret ls, that he bas a method, and he I T
attends to the timely feeding of the plants, I T
and allows no grass to choke them. He plantB
as much as his force can work, and no more. I T
I found to my surprise that no colored hands j ^
were here, all whites. GRAPHO. j?
