the Mother-in-law's blU. This malevolent en?
actment provides that whenever a brutal hus?
band shall deny bis wile the society of her
friends or relations, or prevent her from at- j
tending divine service, or render her life un?
happy or uncomfortable, tbe injured female
shall be entitled to separation und alimony.
Whether this bill ls child to the brain-sweat of
a designing Benedict, or an Irresponsible
bachelor, the table-talker la unable to decide.
Aboutit there ls a charming.Indefiniteness
which cannot fail to commend Itself to the
female mind. Woman, bless her? ls utterly
unconscious of number beneath a million, of j
distance less than a mlle, of amity leas than
love, or of dislike less than positive hatred
(pos-ltive in italics, emphasized with a stamp
of the foot.) Questions are therefore apt to
arise under this statute which may render
divorce In reality as facile as it ls popularly
believed to be In Indiana. Thus, tor instance,
to what amount of the society ot her friends
and relatives ls a woman entitled? Can
"lrlends" be legally construed to Include your
