HOB THE WEEK ENDINO THURSDAY, JULY ll, 1872. TUB CROPS.-The growing erops or cotton and corn have progressed favorably during the week, and moderate showers of raia have benefited the plants, which continue to d velop with much promise. The rain-fall bas probably been sufficient generally for upland's planting, but the rice stands in need on some of the rivers of an abund? ant supply of fresh water, which In localities on a part of the streams la too salt to place on vegeta? tion. A few complaints have appreared from the higher portion or this State, or Georgia and the West, or too mach rain, bnt thu ls limited. An occasional announcement of caterpillar and worm ls noticed, but as yet unimportant, and we regret to learn that the genuine cotton caterpillar has appeared among the growing sea island crop near this city, and serions damage ls reared. A second brood of caterpillars has al-o reappeared to a co slderable extent among the growing rice crop. A rurnur has reached here of the receipt or the first bale new cotton at a Texas port, but ls supposed to be premature. THE RECEIPTS.-The Bupplles at the ' cotton ports for the week up to Friday last, were 4673 bales against 6216 balts the previous week, and 18,468 bales for the corresponding time last year. At New Orleans tbe arrivals were 781 ba es in con? trast with 6378 bales for the week of the year be? fore. The total receipts at the cotton ports from September 1, 1871, up to the latest dates weie 2,681,634 bales, against 3,936.911 bales last year, showing a decrease of 1,256,373 boles. On Tuesday the former was dull and easier, uplands ?oj?aiid, eales 6000 bales; the lat? ter was nominal at 24>?c sales 196 bales. SEA ISLAND COTTON.-There were no arrivals of thlB quality of the staple. The market has been quiet and dall, with an absence or demand which prevented transactions. RICE.-The crop being about all to market, there were no receipts or Carolina rough won hy of mention. There was a moderately steady in? quiry, with fairly supported prices, during this period, the market showing no variation of note. Sales about 700 tierces of clean Carolina, among whloh were 84 tierces at exe,48 at m, 28 at 7, 80 ac 7K. 243 tierces at 7X, 69 at 7K. 103 at 8K, 119 at 8*;, lis on private terms.
