In Camden, "Dolly Varden," furnishes an ac?

last Friday, between Captain Samuel Place,
the county treasurer, and Mr. J. W. De Pass,
in which blows were exchanged, although,
fortunately, neither party was seriously In?
jured.
BATHING-.-The heat yesterday afternoon In?
duced numer?os urchins In the upper part of
the city to take to the water, and their
bathing suits being more convenient than
proper they attracted the attention of the
pollse. Four were arrested and lodged in
the Guardhouse as nuisances and lor Inde?
cent exposure. ? *
VERY DISORDERLY.-About eleven o'clock
yesterday morning a colored man rushed from
a house at the corner ot Coming and Duncan
streets, pursued by Samuel Haskett, colored,
with a drawn knife. A policeman interfered
to arrest Haskett, who resisted and fought his
biet, tearing the clothes and otherwise dam?
aging ?he official. The latter, however, was
eqnJ '.o the task, and took Samuel lo the
Guardhouse for examination this morning.
CODNTT TAX SALES.-The sale of property
in Charleston County outside of the city limits,
for unpaid taxes lor 186S, 1869, 1870 and 1871,
Will begin at noon to-day, in Iront ot the
Fire-Proof building, corner of Meeting and
Chalmers streets. The list, as advertised In
another column of this morning's NEWS, is a
formidable one, snd the sale will be absolute
and without reserve to the highest bidder, the
county auditor, under the enactments of the
last Legislature, being authorized to give
warranty deeds to the purchasers by which
the State guarantees the title.
CLUBS AND STARS.-John Burke, lodged for
raising a disturoance in Elliott street, and
fighting the police who tried to arrest him,
was fined two dollars.
Another Inebriate of tbe quiet sort laid blm
- self down to sleep at the corner of King and
Wentworth streets, aod fell Into the hands of
tho police. He was tined one dollar.
Two goats astray In Wentworth streets, cost
their owner on? dollar.
All ot the flues were promptly raid up In
full, and the court adjourned after a brief and
pleasant Bitting. ^
THE POLICE GOING FOR THE THIEVES.-The
police of the upper wards seem to be keeping
. their eyes wide open, especially when thieves
are about. Saturday morning they brought
donn four, bagged on the preceding night, to
the lower Guardhouse, as follows: Samuel
Middleton and Mike Wallace, arrested for steal-11
lng a coat from E iward Bury, in tbe lower
market. David Smith, charged witb swindling
Primus Singleton of three, dollars and fl i ty
cents by selling bim a hog stolen from a tuird
