LABOE SALE OF RAILROAD SECURITIES.-Six hnndred thousand dollars of second mort? gage bonds or the Greenville and Columbia Railroad Company were sold in New York at auction, on June 1st, at prices ranging from 26, to 29*. . FATAL DROWNING ACCIDENT.-About four o'clock yesterday afternoon a little boy about two years old, the son of Captain BorHwV, tefl off the bulkhead ot Hamllo* wnarf, and was drowned befor? assistance could be rendered. The accident was witnessed by some boys who were swimming in the neighborhood, and who succeeded in finding the body after a search of ten minutes. Medi? cal attendance was promptly secured, but life wasextinct._ CLAFLTN UNTVERSITY.-The anniversary ex? ercises of this Institution, Orangeburg County, occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday last. The pupils, lu their recitations, gave evidence of praiseworthy Improvement and progress. The school has been considerably broken np, during the past fe w weeks of the session, by sickness. Garety, on behalf of the teachers, with a beautiful silver goblet, as a mark of their esteem and appre? ciation of his abdity and fidelity as an officer of the BC hool. ? CLUBS AND STARS.-Alderman Bowen presi? ded yesterday morning at the customary Judi? cial matinee at the Guardhouse, and rllsposed of the following cases : Hector Brown, Daniel Fishburn and Simon Alston, all colored, were found guilty ci lar? ceny, and sent up for thirty days. There were three Inebriates, of whom. Wm. 1J Johnson was discharged, Wm. Brown was fined one dollar, and Solomon Rose was rusti? cated for twenty days. The collection of estrays comprised one cow and one goat, the respects owners ot which recovered their property after contributing one dollar apiece to the city treasurer, and one Newfoundland dog, which .was empounded until to-morrow, when he will become a vic tim of the dog law unless rescued to-dar. CRUMBS. -To-day is the second anniversary of the death of William Gilmore Simms. The weather yesterday was cool and de? lightful. The Comet Steam Fire Engine Company had an enjoyable picnic yesterday at Belvidere. The Irish Rifle Club, at a special meeting last evening, reconsidered their former action and decided to give no picnic on the 19th inst,, as announced. MR Michael Byan was accidentally shot In the leg last Saturday afternoon, while some gentlemen were practicing target shooting In the rear of Mr. Happoldt'a establishment on Meeting street.
