TEE CHOPS.-The weather has been changeable |
and still somewhat cool, with come rain. Plan?
tation work is backward everywhere, and the
start for the next crop commences under more
than usually unfavorable conditions, which, un?
less assisted by fort?nate events In the fatare,
will have a lessening effect on the growth.
THE RECEIPTS.-The arrivals at the cotton pons
for the week np to Friday lasts wera 49,839 bale?,
against 89,189 the trevlous week, and 71,744 for
the per : id last year. At New Orleans the supplies
were 17.433 bales, In contrast with 33.235 for the
year before. The total receipts at the cotton
ports-from September l, 1871. ap to the latest
dAtes, were 2,428,668 bales, against 3.850,034 bales
the y ear previous, showing a decrease' of 921,466
bales. The arrivals at the principal Southern
markets from September 1, i sn, np to the latest
telegraphic intelligence, as compared with the
year before, were as follows: .

BICE.-The supplies have been unimportant,
amounting to about 8000 bushels of Carolina
rough. Thia grain has been ia fair request at

Carolina, among which were, 138 at SX, 80 at
8 5-16, 01 at %%, 15 at 8 7-16, 60 at 8??, 52 at 8??C.

NAVAL STORKS.-There were only light supplies
of these articles coming'.0 hand, Bay about 600
bbls of all kinds for the week. There have been a
few limited transactions, but they were not made
public. Ct ade tnrpentine maybe quoted at $6
for virgin, $4 60 for yellow dip and $2 00 for hard.
HAY.-There has been received about 600 bales
or North River qualities. With a light stock, the
market wa* firm, with sales of'North River de?
scriptions at $l 95@2 ft per hundred.
CORN.-The supplies of this grain were light,
amounting to about 4600 bushels, by steam from
Baltimore. Sales of soot) bu-heis of Maryland
white occurred at soc fi tushel, sacks Included,
and transactions in bulk, white, took place at 79?
8O0 fi bushel. Jobbing lots of white may be quot-1

OATS.-About 1000 bushels of this grain came to
