THE PHILADELPHIA STEAMSHIP VIRGINIA has been detained, and wili not sall until Friday morning at half past nine o'clock. Os INSPECTION.-Two. of the portwardens of our city, Messrs. Lynah and Bird, left the cijy yesterday in the steamer Pilot Boy for Port Royal to inspect the bark Ebenezer, which is at that port in a leaky condition. PERSONAL,-Captain H. W. Rice, of the Lex? ington Dispatch, is in the city on business. The Hon. F. H. W. Briggman, mayor of | Orangeburg, is also in the etty. Judge Charles B. Farmer, of Walterbor o', is at the Charleston Hotel. NON COMPOS MENTIS.-Rachel Hutson, a young colored woman, was lodged at the upper Guardhouse, on Tuesday night, by her father, who thought her of unsound mind. She was examined before the Mayor, and sent to the Old Folks' Home on trish i DRUMMING.-T. Kirkwood was arrested yes? terday by the detectives, while selling goods by sample for a Northern house, without the requisita license. He was taken at once be? fore tho Mayor, and, the offence being ad? mitted, he was fined $5, and ordered to take out a proper license. MARITAL RIGHTS.-The noise and disturb? ance, early yesterday morning, in Morris street was caused by the eummary chastisement of his better bali by a colored man, rejoicing in the celebrated cognomen of Grant. The police Interfered, and the Mayor fined Grant two dollars tor his amusement. The prisoner, after getting cool, admitted the justice of the sentence, and paid his fine. THB OATES TROUPE.-The performance last night was a capital one, and was hugely en? joyed by a large audience. An important feature of the representations given by this company Is the entire absence of double eniendres and vulgar jokes. This, with the dashing acting and Binging, makes the corn company highly popular in Charleston." William Morrls, who Is not a son of temper? ance, found Queen street too crooked for a sober man to wa k in. A policeman showed him the way to the Guardhouse, and the Mayor fined him two dollars for his delusion.
