Leslie, of Charleston, S. C.. for the slight consideration oi fifty-nine thousand dollars. BRICKBATTIXG A LIDV.-A little after nine o'clock on Monday morning. John Singleton, a colored boy, threw a brick at another boy lu America street, and instead of hitting the bo}, struck a lady In the face who wa? pass? ing. The lady was badly cut, but did not ap? pear against the young scapegrace before the Mtyor. The prisoner was consequently dis? charged for want of evidence against him. COTTON FOB FOREIGN PORTS.-Mr. W. P. Hall cleared yesteraay, at this port, the Span? ish bark Sirio, for Havre, with seven hundred and ninety-four bales upland colton; the Span? ish bark Gesoria, for Barcelona, with six hun? dred and seventy-five bales upland cotton, and the Spanish brig Ysabel?ta, for the same port, with lour hundred and fifty-six bales upland cotton. Messrs. J. A. Enslow A Co. cleared for Liv. erjaool the American Bark Albina, with 2503 bales upland cotton, weighing 1,140,670 pounds, and valued at $211,024. CLUBS AND STARS.-Wm. Randall* arrested for trespassing upon the premises of Mr. Geo. i lmons, bad his case deterred until to-day. Thos. Suarez, lodged lor desertion from the Spanish bark Sirio, was delivered to the cap? tain. One bacchanalian who succumbed to the In- i fluence ot the drowsy god on East Biy street, 'woke np In the Guardhc % and next morning paid a nae of one dollar for his spree. A white goat, lou nd at large in Spring street, i m was delivered to the owner upon payment of a fine ol one dollar. Nine persons applied for lodgings at the ! Guardhouse and were duly discharged next morning. SWINDLER IX CUSTODY.-Between twelve and one o'clock on Monday, James Huchet, alias James Drayton, was surprised in one of his flints up town by Assistant-Chief Fraser, who proceeded to arrest him. Drayton made a fierce resistance, but at length succumbed. As he was being led off, Benjamin Smith, bis companion, interfered with the officer, and attempted to Tesche Drayton. Smith speedily found himself numbered with the prisoners, and, with Drayton, waa locked up in the Guardhouse. Drayton WA? arrested some days ago for swindling a c Mored man from the country out of ten dollars by the strap Js\me, and bad been allowed to go at large on bis promise to find out the other swindler who had assisted in the Job. Since then he has disappeared, and, nothing having been heard o? him, the officers were notified to arrest him. Drayton was turned over to a trial Jus? tice lor prosecution, and Smith was dismissed with a reprimand. THE DEATH OF MR. JOSEPH WALKER.-A telegram was received yesterday from Aiken announcing the death, at that place, of Mr. Joseph Walker, who had been a prominent merchant in Charleston for above thirty years. Mr. Walker began business in this city as a manufacturing stationer In 1838, and in 1852 was appointed superintendent of the Bath Paper Mills. In which concern he was a large stockholder. He remained in charge of the mills (or a number of years. During the Con? federate war he served as commissary-gene? ral for the State of South Carolina, which po-' 6itlon he resigne! ou account of failing health, and went to Europe as one of the agents of the Confederate Government. Al? erter the war he resumed business Ja Charles? ton, but was forced, by Increasing debility, to withdraw. He again went to Europe, re? turning some months ago to this city. He afterwards went to Aiken, where he remained up to the time ol 1rs death, which was caused 1 by consumption. Mr. Walker was an ?amiable man and a pub lie-spirited citizen. His death will be gene- , j^lly regretted. The firmament, the armor, banners, dresses and accoutrements ot the company are much above the usual display on such occasions, and are very creditable to the management.
