Tbe Aspen.
0 leave~ that shiver In the breezes mild.
And turn your pale, reared (feces up to me,
What is the power wlthtu you: gesture wild
That thrills my soul with such strange sym?
pathy !
Tour plaintive langnage I may he tr in vain,
My ear ls dull to harmonies so sweet ;
1 only know 1 feel the p sstonate rain
That whitens you, In my young pulses beat.
Perhaps when you and I have prown divine.
And speak the self same t- natue, O aspen tree,
Our hearts may compreh r.d :hw subtle sign
Of love and tenderness 'twixt you and me.

CINCINNATI, October 7 -The market during
the past week has seen some 4 ups and downs."
Early m the w. ek, ti.e speculators who h ul load?
ed up were anxious to get out eren at a loss, and
the market-gav- way X to xe on balk meats and
bacon. Short sellers and consum?is took advan?
tage ofthe same and bought freely, and all the
decline was recovered, an I at the close hol lers
were insisting on a further advauce, but beyers
were no; disposed to follow lt up, but OH the
contrary are hold ng off, as the offerings for next
week a e more liberal. The advance was mostly
on bac "u. and the% stock of fresh Bmoked being
light, holders bad t elr own way. There ls con?
siderable oi l pack d ba on stortd here, which
must soon find a market, as oar slaughterers are
all readv. walting for a cold spell to commence
opTationa. and fifieen to twenty days old meat
will then have the call. Consumers have bought
liberally, t ut the tightness of the mcney market
in their section has retarded their purchases to a
great ex;en\taklng small lots at a time, but pret?
ty i ften. The reports from all sections nf the
country report plenty of hogs, and good ones, and
prices are likely to role low, the farmer and
drover having accepted the situation. It ls es?
timated that the final resu.t of the nex packing
season will show the packing lu the West tobe
5.000.000 head; but this is only os paper, and can
only be decided when the noses are counted. At
any ra e, there will oe enough fur all purposes
They are se Ung spot at $4a4 50, gross and for

keen except at concessions.

LARD.-This article astonishes the natives. It
has not transpired for years that the price of
lard was twice the price of gro-s hogs, but such
ls the case now, either hogs are too low or lard
too high. At present prices lt pays a lar/e profit
to the renderer, and sides will be rendere 11f the
