- TEE CF.ors'- The weather has been'steadily
warnt during this period, with an absence of rain
except a few scattering showers. Tbe reports of
drought m the interior of this State have become
Badly prominent, and th? threatened'damage to
corn and cotton is seriou?, the dry spell having
lasted for six weeks in some localities, and the
corn has been cut off about one half, while cotton
ls suffering" severely. So far three bales of the
new crop, have reached New Orleans from Texas.
These arrivals straw a forward state of the plant
in that section.
THE RECEIPTS.-The arrivals at the cotton ports
for the week up to Friday last were 10,500 bales,
.against lb,66l the week before, and 6812 for the
corresponding period last season. At New Orleans
the receipts were 4518 bales, tn contrast with 1468
the week ot the year previous. The tctal sup
. plies at the cotton ports from September 1,
1870, np to the latest mall dates, were 3,963,263
hales, against 2,3:5,010 the season before, sbowing
an increase or 1,088,244 bales. The arrivals at the
principal Southern markets fron? September 1,
1870, np to the latest telegraphic intelligence, as
compared with the year previous, were as follows:

THE COTTON MARKET.-Th is staple exhibited
dull and depressed features for.most of the week
under review, -with lower prices. The foreign
market which op-ned at. 9d $ 'lb Tor middling
uplands receded to 8#d; at New York the rates
began at 20j? and declined to lQJic* and at this
point the transactions were so light that lt was
difficult to present quotations, they being nomi-1
nal for most of the tim?. The movements in the
article at Liverpool and New York for this period

On Saturday the market was quiet and no trans
actions took place, quotations nominal. On Mon

strong mies demanded by sellers rather limited
business. The operations in this market for the |

very quiet, the high prices bringing the business
down to urgent wants. With several small lots in
to-day receivers shaded prices, but not to an ex?
