Maryland, My Maryland.
A PITTSBURG DDE.
The following very happy verses, pertinent
to the occasion ot the railroad cerebratloa, and
the union of Pittsburg and Baltimore by rail,
.appears in the Pittsburg Evening Leader. The
verses will amuse "and please everybody In
Maryland, and Indeed throughout the South,
where the stirring war poem of Mr. Randall,
of which this Ia a felicitous parody, ls so well
"known:
An Iron path leads from thy share,
Maryland;
And brings thee welcome to onr door,
Maryland ; i
They come 1 Tny children hither pour,
Who thronged the BtreetB of Baltimore,
We'll shout until our throats are sore,
'?Maryland, My Maryland !"
Hark l to a city's warm appeal,
Maryland;
That's Joined to thee with bands of steel,
Maryland ;
Oh I let us thy strong lnfinence feel,
To mike New York and Phila. squeal,
In cheaper prices wilt thou deal ?
"Maryland, My Maryland !"
Thy wares tbou wilt not mix with dost,
- Maryland;
Thou wilt not let our Iron rust,
Maryland;
Thy merchants shall be ever just,
And with long credits ours trust.
E'en though thereby they sometimes "bust,"
Maryland, My Maryland !
I hear the coming banquet's hum,
Maryland ;
I hear "fla," ?pop" and "gurgle" some,
Maryland;
Thou art not deaf, thou ar', not dumb,
Thou wilt not falter nor succumb,
Thy heads are hard as ours, by gum,
Maryland, My Maryland.
Five hundred 'burghers sooty, free,
Maryland;
Are ready now to dink with thee,
Maryland;
A thousanl more will quick agree.
To help taem drain the toast to thee,
That thou may'at ever, ever be,
Maryland, Our Maryland 1
