On Wednesday evening a pedestrian, who naturally took this pleasaut cutoff on his way up Meeting street, from Broad, at about hair-past seven o'clock, found the gates on the Meeting and Chalmers street side securely locked, and return? ing whence he came, arrived at the Broad street gate just lu time to escape being caged by the locking of this one also. SHARK FISHING.-The lines which are set -daily on North Atlantic wharf are doing a good business, and afford much excitement and sport to persons m the vicinity. Lieutenant Charles B>Hlnton, with his detach? ment of fifteen men. for some weeks posted at Sumter, has be<n relieved by Captain T. J. Lloyd, commanding Company F, 18th U. S. Infantry, with Lieutenants C. R. Paul and J. H. Todd. SELLING CIGARS.-Pedro Cabrero and Carlos Soria were arrested yesterday afternoon by Oftl cer Burke, and lodged in the Detective office, charged with selling cigars by the 6ample with? out a city license. When arrested the prisoners had ten bunchc? of cigars about them, branded "Recommendables,'' which they were offering at $50 per thousand. 1 hey were unable to speak EDgllsh, and ar... amusing colloquy ensued at the Detective office while the parties were being ex? amined. The officer who arrested them swore that they were playing offuand that they spoke English on the way to the Guardhouse. With the aid of an office: who had some acquaintance with the Spanish language, the two foreigners made themselves understood, and in this way arrange? ments were made by which ?hey were released npon giving good security. In the sum of $50, for thilr appearance this morning. THE CHARLESTON CHARITABLE ASSOCIATION.
