BEAL ESTATE SALE.-The valuable lot of land with the handsome store and outbuildings, 27 feet in front by 102 feet deep, on the north side of | Broad street, adjoining the property of Messrs. Edgerton A Richards, was.sold yesterday morn? ing at auction by R. M. FATAL RESULT OF THE WI.VNSBORO' AFFRAY. Mr. John W. clark, the county treasarer of Fair? field, who was shot by Mr. Aiken in a difficulty at Wlnr.sboro', died on Tuesday night, about 9 o'clock. An Inquest was held over the body, and a verdict In accordance with the facts, published in the Phoenix, was rendered. It was truly an unfortunate affair, and ls sincerely regretted by all parties. Mr. Aiken, lt ls expected, will be brought before Judge Melton this morning, when suitable ball will be offered for his appearance at court. CAUGHT AT LAST.-Joseph Bordeaux, a col? ored youth, was arrested on Wednesday in the crowd attending the firemen's parade and lodged In the Guardhouse. The prisoner ls alleged to be the larson who committed several assaults upon unprotected ladies some weeks back, by snatch? ing from their hands and carrying od their pocket-books or satchels. The officers have been on the lookout for him for sonce time past, bnt tie succeeded in concealing hts wheieabouts until an irrepressible curiosity to witness the parade brought him out from his hiding place into the broad light of day. After an examination before, the Mayor, he was sent to jail for thirty days under the vagrant law. Another View or t ii?: Fire Department^ A Handsome Celebration - Spirited Contest, &c. . . The f.;rand display of the steamers on Wed? nesday was followed yesterday by the parade of the hand engines or the department. The day had beim long anticipated by the participants and their friends, and the display equalled the expfctations or the mest sanguine. The entire colored population or the city seemed to have taken a. holiday, and long before the commence? ment of the contest, streams of murky humanity poured continuously toward the scene, of action. Broad street, from Meeting to Savage street, was converted into a temporary fair, and the side walks vere lined with a succession of booths, stands, tables, Ac. The hot paucake and sassa? fras bee: mauinas, though on pleasure bent, stl l had a rragal mind, and while they were as excited as anytody. and enjoyed the scene equally as well, they did not forget to turn an honest penuy by administering to the thirst and appetites cf the lusty firemen and the snrronnding throng. Thc lively small fry of news venders, boot blacks, match boys, Ac, were In their glory, and their numbera and appearance, as they ornamented the wallu, climbed the trees and wriggled in and out amoag the crowd, were strong arguments to convinco the observer of the correctness of the ? At 10 o'clook the companies who were to take part in the contest for the prizes assembled in Meeting street, opposite the Citadel Green, and as soon as ene line was formed the procession moved down Meeting street, preceded by Mitchell's Brass Band. Ten arruien, a delegation of two from each company, followed, escorting the United States flag. Behind these came a phaeton carrying the judges, followed by the United Fire Company. This c -nipany paraded sixty-three men. Uniform, red shirr, -with blue shield-shaped bosom, and biack pants. The engine was draped in mourn? ing for a deceased member, George Simmons. The engine (slugie break) was built by Ilunneman A Co., Boston, 1S60. Weight, 2560 pounds. Next in line the Comet star Fire Company. They paraded one hundred and thirtceu men. Uniform, white flannel frock coat and black pants. The engine aud hose reel we.e handsomely decorated. In front, on a banner, was thc motto, '"Shoo fly, don't hodder me." and behind this w.ere6eatcd two boys waving miniature United States fiUgs. The engine was built by Ilunneman A Co., or Boston, in 1S50. Weight, 2T10 pounds. The Ashley Fire Company followed, and para, ded forty seven men. Uniform, dark blue fioek coat, wit h yellow trimming-, and white pants. Among the decorations on the enslne, which were veiy tastefol, was an eagle formed or green twigs aro leaves. The engine was built by Ilun? neman S. Co., of Boston- In 1850. Weight, 2542 pounds. The F.:'e and Drum Corps was next. Its direc? to; t.sword slung to his side, and bore a huge baton, ornamented with t. resplendent gilt ku?b. They marched just in Iront or the Prudence Fire Company, who i urned out sixty-live men. Uni? form, waite flannel shirts with red collars and curfs, and Hack pants. After the speeches, the companies left the ground for their engine houses, and the crowd dispersed. UNFORTUNATE ACWDENT.-Yesterday alter noon, as one or the Ru*ledge stree: cars waa going np Meeting street, Henry Cercken. ayocth about lit years of age, attempted to jump upon the front platform of thc car, while lt was In motion, just opposite to White's marble yard. He slipped in the attempt, and fell on thc side of thc car, with his feet on the track. The front wheel passed over his left ankle aud right foot, dislocating the ankle and breaking some of the smaller bones. Thc right root was slightly cut, and one of the tors mashed. He was speedily picked up and taken into the drug store of Dr. H. Baer. The wounds were dressed toy a physician, and the suf? ferer was soon after sent to his residence, corner Smith and Warren streets. The conductor and driver of the car both state that the boy had made no sign to indicate th it he desired to get on the car. and also that they dill not see him until after the accident had occurred. Prince Maxwell, lodged on the charge of va? grancy, was discharged. John Brown, arrested for disorderly conduct and using abusive language to the police In Ring street, was sentenced to pay a fine of $5 or spend ten days In the House or Correction. A noisy individual, who could not restrain his excited feelings uuder a tremendous alcoholic pressure, was arrested and fined $5, which he paid forthwith. Another, who was founa lying in Chalmers street, under the impression that a steam fire en? gine had ran over him, was taken to the Guard? house, and after an examination on the charge of being drunk, was discharged on tho plea of the first offence. STARBINO IN THE DARK_About 4 o'clock, yesterday morning, a colored man named James Lewis went to the house of a woman wltb whom he had been living some time previously and -tried to enter her apartment, notwithstanding the two had quarrelled a short time before. Fall? ing in this, and getting no answer to his load and repeated knocks, he became enraged, and, going to a window, smashed In thc glasses. He now put his hand in, and tried to nnbolt the door, but was prevented from within by Wl liam Robert son, a colored rival, who now made lils appear? ance on Hie acene. The jealousy of Lewis now knew no bounds, and, jumping up In the window, he drew a large knife, and commenced to stab around promiscuously. Ttte confusion which ensued brought out the neighbors, who, berore anybody was hurt, stopped the row. Lewis was arrested during the day. on a warrant irdm Trial Justice Levy, and, after an examination, was committed to jail, to await his trial at the June term of the Court of General Sessions.
