FOB PHILADELHIA-THURSDAY.-The steamer Empire will be dispatched for Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon, at 4 o'clock; and arrange? ments have been made to Insure through bills lading for naval stores to Chicago, Milwaukle and the Noithwest. Cotton as usual to Providence ant Boston. RUNAWAY TN KING STREET.-Yesterday morning, while Inspector Jenks was driving In King street, near Berresford, bis' horse took fright at a large quantity of bricks and mortar piled on one side of the street, and ran ot!. He had not gone far when the buggy ran against one of the awning posts on the wes: c'/.e of the street, and was overturned. Both shafts were smashed, but no oones were broken. CLUBS AND STARS.-James Kennedy and T jomas Moony, lodged on the charge of havlug stolen a boat, are held for examination. B. Conly, reported for selling and retailing liquor wi thom a proper license, was fined $10. Daniel Plnckney, arrested for stealing cotton from Mr. Coffin, on the Bay, was sentenced to be detained ror two dayp. Six fine fowls, stolen from a lady on Rutledge avenue, have been recovered, and are at the De? tective office, to be delivered to the owner. REMOVAL OF FIXTURES.-A colored youth, named William Brown was arrested, on Monday night, and brought before the Mayor next morn? ing, on the charge of larceny. The prisoner bad entered an uninhabited house.in Berresford street and deliberately tore down the blinds, sashes, shutters, Ac. While carrying them off, be was arrested by the detectives, and lodged in the Guardhouse. Arter a partial bearing, the Mayor referred the case to a trial just^ e ror prosecu? tion. SATLING OF THE GEORGIA.-TRUCK FARMERS AIL HAPPT.-This commodious iron steamship, Captain Crowell, left her pier a few minutes arter 6 o'clock last evening, with a good list of passen? gers and an immense cargo, comprising about 5000 packages cotton, rice, naval stores, farm truck, Ac. The farmers were very anxious when tliey saw thc large movement of cotton. Ac, for fear room would be scarce for their truck, bu1 the great caravan of barrels and boxes had no trouble in securing comfortable freight quarters, well ventilated and roomy. Between 3500 and 4000 packages of truck were shipped on the Geor? gia, and yet there was room ror one or two thou? sand more. Tills company is the guest of the Phoenix and .Ema Compnules of this city, and the two latter hasteued yesterday to meet the honored members of the brotherhood n orn our sister city with becoming courtesy. A cemmittee from each or these co mpanies left the city in the morning on the Savaunah and Charleston Railroad with sun? dry imporiaut packages for the delectation and refreshment or the travellers, and met the train wit a their guests at Grahamville. The Pho.'Dlx and Arlina Fire Companies were the guests of the Metroplitan, when the two com? panies visited the Forest City at the annual parade las.t spring, and among the visiting de? tachment many friends and, boon companions were to be recognized. Taking tho train for this city the Charlestonlans were soon lr the midst of their guests, and the hours of travel were whiled away in the interchange of social compliments and pleasant reminiscences. An invitation to the Council from the Colored Fire Department, to review their procession to' morrow, at ll A. M., was also accepted. The Mayor stated his Intention of being pres eat at theBe parades, and hoped to see as many Aldermen as possible. Alderman Geddings called to the attention of Council the assessment of the property for the projected widening or East Bay, and stated that many persons having heard what amount the committee wa3 willing to give were anxious to get their money. On motion the matter was re? ferred to a special committee or three, consisting ol the Mayor, the city attorney and the chairman or the committee on streets, with power to act. BILLS. Steamer will start from Meeting street, near the Circular Church, running three hundred (300) yards, with twenty (20) pounds of steam at the start, with Ave (6) men to thc one thousand (1000) pounds weight of the Engine, reeling off and uncoupling one hundred (100) fee* or hose at the termination or the three hundred (SOO) yards. Taking suction at the drain pit opposite Hay ne street, and playing one hundred (100) feet or water; as soon as the hundred reet of water ts obtained the time will be called by the time Judges, Messrs. A. H. Hayden and Juo A Wagoner, and marked on a board in a conspicuous place. Messrs. A. Cameron and E. Forgeaud will act as starting Judges, assisted by Messrs. R. M. Alexanderand C. P. Al mar; Messrs. M. H. Nathan, F. L. O'Neill and B. M. Strobel will assisi the time Judges. All discharge pipes to be left opeu at thc time or startlag, cover or drain pit to be lirted ror the uso of each Company by jome member starting with Engine or Ho^e Reel. 2d.
