FOR THE WEEK ENDING THURSDAY, MAT 4.
TnE CROPS.-Planting has bien kept back in
Borne sections by too much raiD, but generally
fair progress has been c:ade, and cotton has
been placed in the ground over a large extent of
country. The general reports from mos: quarters
give indications or increased attention to provi?
sions and a somewhat diminished surrace to the
cotton crop.
THE RECEIPTS.-The arrivals at the cotton ports
lor the week up to Friday last were 56,8;5 bales,
agaList 63,042 the week berore, and 50,564 for the
time last season. At Sew Orleans the receipts
were 18,900 bales, in contrast with 22,228 for the
week of the year previous. The total arrivals at
the cotton ports rrom September 1,1870, up to the
latest mail dates, were 3,557,090 bales, against
2,569,303 the season berore. showing an increase
o? 987,787 bales. The supplies at the chler South
ern markets rrom September 1, 1870, up to the
latest telegraphic intelligence, as contrasted with
the previous year, were as follows :

fluctuated during, the past week, the marke
