THE OLD POSTOF?TCE RBDrvrvus.-The Re?
pairs apon thia edifice are expected to be com?
pleted la about four months, and wUl be extend ed
as far as the appropriation or $20,000 will per?
mit The exterior will be renewed In Its former
styl?T and will be stuccoed of a French grey
color, the cupola and stone urns on the parapet
walls all remaining la their present positions.
With regard to the interior no* definite instruc?
tions have been received as to the fitting np ex?
cept that the first floor will be a postofflce. In
this there will be all the conveniences necessary
for business, and the walls are to be left in imi?
taci?n of stone, blocked oft* In ashlar and tinted.
The heavy timbers la the roof are geaerally In
good preservation, bat some bave to be replaced
and others strengthened., The old mortar on the
exterior of the walls has already been chipped
off, and they are now almost ready for the new
coat. The Idea or placing a-clock in the front or
the building on Broad street is only a sugges?
tion of Mr. Hoyt, the agent, which wii; be carried
out if the appropriation permits. This, however,
13 by no means certain; and as the cost of. such a
time-piece will not be over two or three hundred
dollars, an application to the neighboring com?
munity would, as a last resort, settle the matter.

THE PAROCHIAL SCHOOL PICNIC.-About two
hundred aad thirty persons yesterday lefc (he
city by the ferry boat to attend the* pic?le given
by the Rev. A. T. Porter to the bay* of the Home.
A delightful trip brought the merry-makers to the
village, and ere long tho Inspiring sounds or music
were heard In the large dancing hall. Amuse?
ments of another kind were not wanting, how
ever, and with the music and dancing aa a sort
or rallying point, the youths and their ralr mends
were soon amusing themselves on the green and
among the fine old oaks. Here an euterprlslng
parry produced a game or croquet, and soon
several couples were busily engaged m the
mysteries or balls and mallets, with an
appreciative circle of lookers on. The time
dew by on the wings of the wind, and many
started as the announcement of "Lunch" struck
upon the ear. The baskets and hampers were
produced, and after a lunch, partaken of with
much relish, the dancers returned to the ball?
room, the croquet players to their game, and the
n her* to their romantic strolls. In the afternoon
tne^cnickers gathered among some oaks, kno wn
to the villagers as Hilliards ville, where a tempting
array ef edibles, spread upon a large table, await?
ed their attention. The dinner was good, and the
appetites of the first order. In a short time the
greater part of the templing viands were among
the things that we~e, and thc youths returned
to their amusements, which were kept ap with
unremitting energy until the hour of departure.
The picnic was altogether a complete success.1
