The market for spirits turpentine is very strong.
The, large shipments from Wilmington the last
few days embracing fuHy 3000 barrels, and about
dearing out the stock on baud there, ls the prin?
cipal feature working In favor of the market. The
stock here ls fair, but not excessive, and holders
are not willing to release full lots even at the Im?
portant advance conceded. It ls difficult to give
a fair price. Some parties are disposed to accept
48c for small parcels In merchantable order, while
for large parcels for shipment as high as 49a50c ls
asked. Beyond che sale quoted in Wilming?
ton a day or two ago another lot of 1500
barrels ls reported, r. o. b., for a Continen?
tal port, at 40c, which makes the quantity
alluded to above. Small lots have sold here to
the extent of loo bbis in merchantable order at
47Xa4Sc and 14 bbls rejections at 47c. Rosins.
The market continues a little Irregular. The light
supply here of. all grades, and the moderate
amount on the way create great reluctance to
part with stocks, unless at advanced figures. Ex?
porters meet the market promptly, but the diffi?
culty of obtaining fall lots restricts transactions.
There has been an Improved Inquiry Tor the best
grades for shipment, and advanced figures have
been paid. For strained, $2 25 is asked for large
parcels, with some small lots working off at $2 20;
sales are 263 bbls strained at $2 20; 200 bbls good
strained and low No. 2 at $2 25; 200 bbls low No.
2 at $230; 1000 bbls low No. 1 at $27?; 20Q bbls
pale at $4 50a5 50. We quote strained at $2 20a
2 25; No. 2 at $2 30aZ65: No. 1 at $2 7503 50; pale
and extra pale at $3 75aA Tar ls quiet; the busi?
ness is in small lots; we quote at$2 40a2 50 for
Wilmington-the Inside price for thin.
