THE CROPS.-During thc week jost closed, a
most severe spell or cold weather took place, the
sharpest experienced for many years, and what?
ever vegetation may bare escaped previous
change?, has, no doutt, been terminated by this
occurrence/- Much rain has also filicu, which,
together with the holidays, has suspended all
work Tor this period.
' THE RECEIPTS.-The arrivals at the cotton pons
for the week up to Friday last were 131,660 bales,
against 155,717 bales for thc wees before, and 114,
031 last season. At New Orleans the receipts were
42,522 bales, ia contrast with 24,016 fer the week
the previous year. The total supplies received at
the cotton- ports from September 1, 1S70, up to
the latest mall dates were 1,511.504 bales, in cou
trast with 1,219,065 bales the year previous, show?
ing an increase of 292,409 bales. The total re- i
ceipts at the chief Southern centres from Septem?
ber l, 1870, op to the latest telegraphic intelli?

under review has presented but limited change in
the foreign .centres, with a disposition to easier
rates, thc occurrence of the holidays, with other
