The ball pierced the ?crt side, and he died on Wednesday morning. Harris surrendered himself to the authorities, and gave bond In thc ?nm of $500 for appearance at a preliminary maring on the 31st Instant. The quarrel origi? nated two years agr>, since which time there has been bad blood between the parties. The Jury rendered a verdict of manslaughter. SENTENCED AGAIN.-Abby Jenkins, a veteran offender, ^as brought before Trial Justice Schro? der, yesterday morning, charged with stealing a table, several chairs, books and status from the public school in St. Phillp street, near George. The charge was fully sustained, in accordance Jr!th the facts already published In THE NEWS, and Abby was sentenced by the justice to spend twenty-flve days lc the county jail. She was ar? rested yesterday in the Jail/ whither she had been sent by Trial Justice Levy, on Taesday last, for twenty days, on being convicted or another lar? ceny. Unfortunately for Abby, she cannot serve ont both sentences at once, and as the twenty flve days are in addition to the latter sentence, her hands will be kept from picking and stealing for some time to come. UNITED STATES COMMISSIONER_James Dun dun was examined before Commissioner Por teous yesterday morning, charged with voting twice lu this city during thc late election. The managers or ward l proved that he voted there once, bat the other managers would not be posi? tives to ms ideuiity, and James, notwithstand? ing his Ominous name ot something twice done, was discharged. Francis Owens and I^aac Pinckncy, two of the managers of election at Heniss's Cross Roads, Beaufort County, during thc late elections, were also examined on a charge of neglect of duty. It was proved that, notwithstanding full instruc? tions in their possession, they bad allowed all per? sona to vote indiscriminately, without even re? quiring the formality or an oath, and they were bound o ver to ?ppear at the January term or the court. Edward Wright, theother manager at this precinct, was bound over on Tuesday in the same manner. _? A BRUTAL MORDER.-On Saturday night, Logan Ferguson, a colored man, was killed at a shop kept hy a mau named Burns, about eight miles from the city, cn the porchester road, un? der the following circumstances: Ferguson was the foreman at tuc m..ri diggings on Mr. McCor? mick's place, on the Ashley River, and knocked o* work on Saturday afternoon about 5 o'clock. He then '.rent out to the road to the shop in ques? tion, with a friend, from whom he was. endeavor? ing lo' obtain some money due. While in the store, the friend accidentally, struck the basket belonging to a colored girl who wars at the store, in company with a man named Jessie Chisolm. The latter abused the offender, and on Ferguson's taking hts rare and rem u stratlng with Chisolm, he became offend? ed, and dared Ferguson ont to fl;hk A moment aft> r, he came to thc door and hurled a billet ol wqpd at Ferguson, and struck him heavl lyjj^l the side. As soon as he had rec vere.l a little from the puin, Ferguson went out, and on coming to thc railing of thc yard, Chisolm, who stood iu thc public read, struck him again on the back of his neck with a heavy piece of board. Ile fell to thc ground, when several other blows were Indicted in the buckby Chisolm, who left him lying there. A few moments afterwards, ihe man In the store came out and found Ferguson dead. He was taken up, and Interred by his brother, bn Tuesday evening, at the Six Mile Boase. THALV OFF TUE TRACK.-Yesterday, about hair-past 1 o'clock, tho passenger train on the Sa vannah and Charleston Railroad, due In this city at half-past 5 o'clock, ran off the track at Coosaw hatchle. lt is stated that there were no serious Injuries to any of the passengers. A special train left this city about two hours after lt occurred for the scene of the accident. THE FntE LOAN BONDS.-The Columbia Union says: "Judge Melton has issued an order, citing Treasurer Parker to appear before him, on the 30th instant, to show cause why he should not be enjoined from paying the 'Ure loan stock,' cf this State, and restraining him from paying out any money of the State in his custody as treasurer, until the cause shall be settled." London Small, arrested for stealing, clothing from a store In King street and vagrancy, was brought before the Mayor, and the clothing having been recovered by the owner, Small was sent to the House of Correction for thirty days as a vagrant, Three destitute White boys applied for shelter and a night's lodging, and were dismissed next morning. F. Mitchell, lodged for being drunk and disor? derly, and raising a disturbance in H. A Quinn heard cries for help is? suing from the dock at the foot or the latter street, and proceeding hastily thither he discov? ered a man up to hts armpits m the Soft mad, and almost exhausted from his efforts to free himself. Mr. Quinn, after a good deal or etfort, succeeded in getting thc man out or his perilous position and placing him upon the dock. He then Informed his deliverer that he had been robbed aud thrown over ihe dock hy three white men, about two hours previous. He thiuks the miscreants would have finished him, if he had not deluded them Into the belief that he was drowned, by keeping quiet after he was thrown over. While in the water t"e heard thc ruffians making a division of their spoil, and leave the dock. When they had gone he attempt? ed to reach the shore, but found himself too deeply Imbedded in the mud to make any pro? gress, and thcu cried for help. Thc victim of the alleged robbery and attempt to murder was an M. D., hailing from Jaeksonboro'. Ile said that ho had on his person when attacked some $112 thc proceeds of two bales of cotton, which he had sold, but his assailants had lort him but $t GO. He had apparently been under ?he influence of liquor, and though his face was slightly cut and his person covered with mud, he was not other? wise much hurt.
