Doug? lass a few days ago. . A FLY-CATCHING RAT.-Yesterday atternoon a rat in the window of the store of 5Ir. 0. A. Stone, next to THE NEWS office, was a source of wonder and amusement to quite a crowd o? persons. He was standing on his hind legs and catching and eating flies. Some he would oatrb in his mouth, others with one, and some witi. both paws. A fly would be caught and swallowed in the twinkling of an eye. If he worked as successlully all the afternoon as he did during tbe tea minutes we watched him, he must have eaten over a hundred ot the lit? tle fellows which are said togo "with a merry, merry hum," and "don't care-a continental for the grocery man." OPENING OF THE SKATING RINK.-The Skat? ing Rink, at the Music Hall, opened last Satur? day nljht. The weather was extremely un? favorable, and the attendance was consequent? ly syall; yet those who were present seemed to have enjoyed themselves hugely. One lit? tle lady deserves special mention for the ease and giv?e with which she glided in and out among thc pillars of the gallery. Her lairy llke movements excited much admiration. Mr. De Honey, the very courteous proprietor of thc Rink, bas made arrangements for keep? ing the Hall open for ladies dally from 10 to 12 o'clock.
