RAILROAD ACCIDENT.-The passenger train on the Laurens Railroad was thrown from the track at some point above Clinton, on Tuesday afternoon. The conductor, T. D. Newman, was seriously hurt, and several passengers hone dangerously. CRUMBS.-Mr. Thomas Duckett, of Laurens, ?died on the 25th ultimo, aged 75. Crops in some portions of Laurens are good, ?nd In others very Indifferent. Where the drought- has prevailed, no amount of rain can .redeem the upland corn. ^-PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION.-We have received a copy of the address on this subject .delivered by Colonel J. P. Thomas, of Coluu 'bia, before the Calhoun and Preston Societies .ot Wofford College, S. C., on the 28th of June last. The cause of the difficulty we have not been able to ascertain. Dr. J. W. Kellar was called >ln, and reports that though the wounds are -serious, he Is doing well. THINGS AT BRANCHVILLE.-Our correspon ? dent E. informs us that corn is suffering mate? rially for the want of raia, but that enough will be made for home use. A few miles away ?corn is fine, and the yield will be abundant. Melons, apples and peaches are abundant, and selling at low figures. There was a large camp meeting at Cattle Creek, beginning on July 28, a&d ending August 1. .The ministers were .zealous, and the conversions numerous. The ?-eolored people, of whom many were present, j.bebaved remarkably) well. CLUBS AND STARS.-A policeman was fined :-$7 and costs, on Saturday, for using his club without a license. ' I Sarah Lewis, a stroller, abused the police i and was sent to the workhouse for Ave days. i Clara Parker went into the room of Anna : Macpherson, threw Anna's clothing into the street, and kicked and beat her besides. Clara .was bailed. Sandy Brown and Isaac Green fought a fight ' without gloves on Friday. Brown, the ag cgressor,waa sent to the House of Correction for ? ten days. A Rutledge street car will hold comforta? bly twenty-two men or six ladles. 8. When the cor is empty, if you are a young man, be careful to iland on the platform with the conductor. This is far more aristocratic than quietly taking your seat. 9. Always, and upon all occasions, abuse the street raliway company. It ls the servant of the public, and stockholders have no rights which the public is bound to respect. At a regular monthly meeting of the Eagle Steam Fire Engine Company, held last even? ing, the 5th instant, the following preamble and resolutions were unanimously adopted : God in the dispensation of His all-wise mercy has again deemed fit to visit our ranks, and summoned to His heavenly home our de? ceased brother, L. H. AXSON, who departed his life on the 19th of April last, at the youthful age o? thirty-eight years. "Tis true his connection with us was of short duration, owing to his having been attacked with the dreaded disease, consumption, which soon deprived him of bis life, and us of an ef? ficient member and genial friend.
