The warlike contest in Europe now at hand has
produced a sharp disturbance in mercantile af?
fairs, and a general uneasiness in reference to the
future. Gold m New York went up to 22K; but
yesterday was lower at 21,-,-. Provisions in near?
ly all eases have more or less improved, while
other articles have remained dull The daily de
' velopments at the seat of war will be a subject of
intense anxiety, and while all must regret the
existence of the unfortunate situation, it is to be
hoped that its evils wBl be mitigated by a short
struggle.

T NAVAL STORES.-There has been'a fair business
?doing in these articles, and the transactions have
amounted to some 2?00 bbls of all' kinds. Among
the sales were 300 bbls spirit?turpentine, at 33c;
60 bbls extra pale rosin at $4 76; 16 bbls extra
pale at $4 82; ld bbls pale kt $4 60; 295 bbls No. 1
to-pale at $3?4 25; 40 bbls -No. I at $3 25@3 50;

HAY.-This article has arrived to the extent of
abount 300 bales North River qualities. With re?
ports of some inquiry for Europe, the market is
somewhat firmer, and sale? took place carly in
the week at tl 36@140, but afterwards stiffen?
ed to fl 50 for North River grades.
CORN.-The arrivals have been light, amounting
to some 14,000 bushels. The inquiry has been mod?
erate, but prices are somewhat stronger, and job?
bing lotB of prime white were held at the close at
$150 fi bushel, weight, sacks included. "We
note sales of iceo bushels inferior white at $1 3d
fl bushel, weight, sacks included; 1000 bushels
white at $141; 1300 bushels white mixed at
$140>?; 5000 bushels Western mixed, is bulk, at
$125 $ bushel.
OATS.-The marke: ls folly supplied with this
grain, and jobbing lots sell at about 80c v bushel;
weight, sacks included.
FLOUR.-The war news has caused a specula?
tive feeling, and prises were stiffer. Northern
and Western fine may be quoted at $6?C 25 '43
bbl; super $6 60?7; extra at $7 25?3, and family
at $8 50@9 ft bbl. New Southern ls being received
In limited lots, and these qualities may be quoted
at $8@9 fl bbl for extra, and $9@10 50 fl bbl for
family to extra family grades.
BACON.-The stock of prime meat is moderate,
and holders have advanced their rates. Prime
smoked shoulders are held at 16 cte fl lb; prime

SUGAR AND MOLASSES.-Prices have stiffened
with the advance In gold. The stocks-are light,
but good to prime grocery sugars may be quoted

quoted at 42c In hhds, and 46c fl gallon In bbls.
BUTTER AND LARD-There is a fair stock of
prime Goshen. We quote good to prime at 35?

and other lower grades sell from 2G@30c fl lb;
coan try do at 26@30c fl lb, as in quality. Lard is

SAIT.-There have been no arrivals. Lots from
