ized by hot sons, and, in some localities, the rains
have been-'seasonable, while in others there has
been an excess of water, and grass, which, with
ot her -J ifflcuities, are doing mnch injury. The gen e
ral appearance of vegetation has shown fair pro?
gress,, but oomplalnt8 are becoming more fre?
quent. The trying season ts at hand, and the
weather win now be watched' with anxiety.
. RBOBIPT8.-The arrivals of the week, up to Fri?
day last, were itfoo bales,; against 12,847 bales
the week before, and 5196 bales last season. At
New Orleans the receipts were 4S7i bales, in con?
tras t with 893 hales, the year prevloos. The total
supplies at the cotton ports from September 1st,
1899, up ?o the latest mail dates, were 3,831,649
bales, against 2,097.334 bales last year, sh owing
