The Charleston Market.

THE CROPS.-The long spell of dry weather
which threatened serious damage to the growing
crops, has been happily relieved dunng this week,
and timely and ample rains have taken place,
giving vegetation a vigorous start, and causing
sanguine hopes for the future. These rains have
been general, and have extended over large sec?
tions of the South, and have to a great extent
stopped thc complaints previously heard, and in?
telligence from most sections is now o? a hopeful
and gratifying character.
THE RECEIPTS, Ac-The receipts at the cotton
centres ror the week up to Friday last, although
showing a heavy decline on the previous week,
was largely in advance of the corresponding
time last year, and were 30,737 bales, against
44,055 bales last week and 16,416 bales for the con?
trasting period las: season. . At New Orleans, the
arrivals were 10,465 bales this apd 4422 bales las:
year. The total supplies received at the cotton
ports irom September 1, 1869, to the latest mail
dates were 2.748,269 bales, against 2,035,674 bales
last year, showing an increase of 71?^95 bales.
The arrivals at the chief Southern ports, from

ticle for the week under review has shown a
depressed tendency. Business was generally dull,
and prices were of a declining character. In the
foreign market, where the rates opened at 10%@

The transactions and prices at Liverpool and
New York for this period have been as follows:

been as rollowp: On Friday, May 27, the market
was dull and easier, prices la some transactions

no sales. On Satarday the article was dull, and

On Monday the market showed more firmness,
particularly (or good qualities; sales 240 bales;

were not generally accepting the rates of buyers;

On Wednesday the article continued depressed
and prices nominal; sales about 50 bales, on the
basis or 21,'ic fi tb ror middling. Yesterday thc
article was dull, a rew buyers offering 21c "$ rb

v"> lb. The trans ictlons were about 60 bales, say

SEA ISLAND COTTON.-Tho receipts have been
lhfht, say 16 bugs, 4 ol which were rrom Savan
uah. The very reduced stock restricts business
to limited figures, and thc transactions have been
light, prices showing no Important change Dom
previous quotations, which we renew : Say Tor
common Floridas 35($3Sc; medium 39@42c; good
43@4?c; floe and choice nominal. Sea islands
may be quoted at 40@50c ? lb ror common; 5G@

RICE.-The arrivals of Carolina rough rrom plan?
tations have been unimportant. There has been
a moderate business doing in this grain at gene?
rally steady prices, but the market ror much or
the time was quiet, with a disposition on the part
of buyers to ask concessions, but rectors were not
disposed to soften prices. The sales were about
400 tierces or clean Carolina, among which were
14 Heroes at G>?; 1S6 at i}?; 15at 7 13.J6; 92 at 7;?;
18 at 71616; 14 at S 3-16c. We quote common to
fair clean Carolina at 7@7%c; good at 7*?<aj8c H
8>. Carolina routh may be quoted at $1 ;.o<g,i 10
fi bushel for interior; $l 40@1 60 fi bushel for sea.

NAVAL STORES.-There has been a rair business
doing in these articles during the week, spirits
tu'pentine selling at 34c fi gallon, pale rosin at
$4 87 fi bbl, and Nos 2 and 3 at Si 55@1 60 fi bbl.
Yesterday there were sold 50 bbls No 3 rosin at
Si 55; 55 No 2 at $1 co; a limited lot of low pale at
$4, and extra pale at $5 25 ll bbl. Also 271 bbls.
No. 2 at $1 60@l 70, and 197 bbls. spirits turpen?
tine at 34c.
HAY.-The arrivals of this article have been libe?
ral, say about 1500 bales. There lias been a fair
inquiry, prices having declined somewhat from
last week. We note sales of North River from the
wharf at $1 35@l 40 ?. hundred.
CORN.-The receipts for this time have been
the heaviest for a lengthened period, and were
about 55,000 bushels ror the week. These heavy
supplies have had a tendency to soften prices, but
the demand for country consumption has been
fairly sustained, and rates have receded but little.
We quote prime white at ?i 43al 44 ? bushel,
weight, sacks included, and $1 39al 40 for yellow.
Some 2400 bushels of prime white was sold to ar?
rive a; fl 41fl bushel, weight, sacks included, and
1900 bushels yellow at $1 39 fi bushel, weight,
sacks included.
OATS.-This grain has come to hand in good
supply, say about 10,000 bushels ror the week.
About cooo bushels were sold at soc fi bushel,
weight, sacks included.
FLOUR.-This article is in moderate stock, with
a limited inquiry, prices during this period show?
ing no change or importance. We nuote North
ern and Western fine at t5 25<S>5 50 "fi UM; super
at $5 75@6 fl bbl; extra at $6 25?6 75 fl bbl, and .
ramify at $7@8 fi bbl. Sonthern grades are in
light supply and may be quoted a*. $7@7 75 fi
bbl tor extra, and J8@9 ft bbl .'or ramily qualities.
Reports rrom the interior give encouraging ac?
counts or the Southern wheat crop, and new
flour has appeared in several neighboring mart
kets.
BACON.-The stock is moderare and demand
limited. We qaote prime smoked shoulders at
?4&16C f* rb; prime smoked clear ribbed sides at
18,'s@l9c; dry salted shoulders at 13,:?lC??c, and
sides at I6?16.'?c fi lt..
SUGAR Atm MOLASSES.-There has been rather
more inquiry lor these articles. We note sales of
choice grocery sugars at Ile fi lb. Clayed mo?
lasses, in hogsheads, at 37@38c; in barrels at 41 @
42; Muscovado, in barrels, at 44@45c $ gallo?.
FRUITS.-The market is hare or West India
qualities, and there is only u limited retail trade.
VEGETABLES.-New Irish potatoes are coming
in more freely, and are belng^hioped North.
BUTTER AND LAKD.-There is a rair stock or
prime Goshen.-'We quote good to prime at 35@
40c f rb. Westarn and other lower grades sell
rrom 20@30c ft rb; country do. at 25@30c fi rb,
as in quality. Lard is in good supply and is held
at 18M@20c.
SALT.-There have been no arrivals; Lots rrom
store selling at $l 40?i 50 f> sack.
INDIA BAGGING.-There is but little or this arti?
cle on the market. We quote 30<&32c nominal
fl yard. Dundee bagging. 44 inches, i}i lbs. for
the yard, ls held at 30@35c.
ROPE.-The demand ror rope is moderate, and
prices are somewhat nominal at quotations. We
quote hemp at - cents "fi rb; greenlearat 10 cents;
and jute at 8 )i@9 cents fi rb.
IF.ON BANDS AND TIES ror cotton, or the most
approved patterns, are offered on the market at

TIMBER AND LCMBER.-The market ror this 2T:J
